Armscor has hosted the first supplier day for military veteran-owned businesses
South African defence procurement, disposals and research and development agency Armscor has hosted a supplier information day for military veteran-owned companies. This was the first such event specifically for veteran-owned businesses, and was held at the CSIR Convention Centre in Pretoria.
“Armscor has been intentional in driving initiatives that enable military veterans to access business opportunities, skills development programmes, and enterprise support,” affirmed Armscor CEO Advocate Solomzi Mbada. “Through various projects and collaborations, we strive to ensure that veteran-owned businesses become active participants in our supply chain, contributing to both national defence and economic growth.”
The theme of the event was “Empowering Veterans Through Economic Inclusion and Strategic Partnerships”. The aim was to help veteran-owned businesses get access to both procurement opportunities and funding, resulting in sustainable economic participation. To these ends, a variety of public and private sector actors also attended the event.
“[These] engagements are not just discussions, they are opportunities to unlock meaningful participation, forge partnerships, and collaborate towards building an inclusive economy that honours the service of our military veterans,” said Mbada.
The keynote address for the event was delivered by Deputy Defence and Military Veterans Minister Richard Mkhungo. “As government, working with institutions such as Armscor, and as a collective society, we have recognised that honouring veterans cannot end with medals and parades,” he highlighted. “True honour lies in restoring dignity through meaningful inclusion in the economic mainstream. It lies in opening doors to business opportunities, skills development, and sustainable livelihoods.”
Armscor intended that this would become an annual event. Also, there would be regular contacts in-between the annual events.
